Children in Uganda walking together

What We Do

Initiatives That Walk With Children

Every program we run is shaped by the communities we serve — practical, compassionate, and rooted in dignity.

More Than a Pair of Shoes

When we started Lace a Heart, we knew that shoes alone could not end child poverty. But we also knew that a pair of shoes could open a door — to school, to safety, to a sense of belonging. That belief has guided every initiative we have built since.

Today, our programs span shoe donations, nutrition support, education advocacy, community health, and volunteer mobilisation — all working together to give Uganda's children a foundation to stand on.

Shoe Donation Drives

Shoe Donation Drives

Our flagship program collects and distributes shoes to children across Uganda who would otherwise walk barefoot to school, church, and community spaces.

  • We partner with schools, churches, and local leaders to identify children most in need and organise regular distribution drives across all 8 districts we serve.
  • Each child receives a properly fitted pair of shoes along with basic foot-health education — because dignity is in the details.

Community Nutrition & Health

Community Nutrition & Health

Barefoot children are vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and infections. Our health program addresses the root causes of poverty alongside our shoe drives.

  • We work with community health workers to provide basic nutrition support, hygiene education, and referrals to medical care for children and families in our program areas.
  • Health screenings are conducted at every shoe distribution event, ensuring children receive holistic care — not just footwear.

Education Access & Advocacy

Education Access & Advocacy

A child without shoes is often a child who stays home from school. Our education program removes that barrier and advocates for every child's right to learn.

  • We collaborate with local schools and district education offices to identify out-of-school children and support their re-enrolment through shoe donations, school supply kits, and family mentorship.
  • Our advocacy work pushes for policy changes that protect children's access to education regardless of their economic background.

Volunteer Mobilisation

Volunteer Mobilisation

Change happens when communities come together. We mobilise volunteers from churches, universities, NGOs, and the diaspora to serve alongside us.

  • Volunteers join us for distribution drives, community events, mentorship sessions, and fundraising campaigns — both in Uganda and internationally.
  • We provide training, coordination, and meaningful roles so every volunteer contributes with purpose and leaves with a deeper understanding of community development.
